My name is Emerald Ortiz, I am the owner and operator of Sacred Wombanhood Birth Support Services. I am a full spectrum doula who is certified as a Community Outreach Perinatal Educator (COPE) through Commonsense Childbirth Institute which encompasses child birth education, birth doula and lactation support. I am also trained by Shafia Monroe Consulting (SMC), as a culturally competent full circle doula. I have numerous skills and resources to offer my clients including knowledge of pregnancy and postpartum herbs, belly binding, mother blessing, baby wearing, infant care and more.
As a wife and the mother of 2 sons and a daughter, I know the importance of both the presence and lack of informed support, and resources for new parents. Though I have been a "trained" doula since 2018, my birthwork journey began in 1997 when supporting a friend through her birth and realized how beautifully sacred supporting a birth can be. I then went on to support numerous family and friends' births before taking doula training. Being a birth worker is not just what I do, but a part of who I am.
Services I provide include childbirth education, prenatal support, partner support, pregnancy and birth comfort measures, birth planning, physical/emotional birth support, breastfeeding, infant care, and postpartum support. Also, as a graduate of Woman's Choice Perinatal Service Placenta Encapsulation training I provide placenta capsule preparation.
Because pregnancies can end in a number of ways I am prepared to support families through any outcome. I am also a certified Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) advocate.
I am proudly one of the founding members of the Umoja Nia Birth Collective, a Rhode Island based doula collective of unique, diverse Full Spectrum Doulas who provide a range of perinatal service to families across the State.
