As a postpartum doula, I support families in the tender weeks and months following the birth of their brand new baby. Newborn care in the first few weeks can be a struggle for anyone. Frequent sleepless nights and the ongoing demands of newborn care can be overwhelming. Postpartum doula care offers families skilled support during this incredible life transition.

Depending on each families needs, your postpartum doula can provide in home massage therapy, private yoga therapies, lactation guidance and resources, newborn care techniques and tools, overnight support so you can get more sleep and new this year: Our Home Delivered Care Plans which weave together postpartum meals for optimal healing, and access to a variety of healing modalities, delivered right to your home. Together we will determine what your families needs are and make a plan that suits your unique situation.

As a birth doula, I offer physical and emotional support to women and their birth partners throughout the entirety of their labor. After an interview together, clients who choose to work with me have access to unlimited phone support as well as several prenatal and postpartum home visits. Together, we work to identify specific needs, preferences and goals for the coming birth and postpartum period. This helps parents feel empowered and prepared to cope with challenges that might arise during and after labor.

Certified Lactation Counselor

Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed your baby, but it can also be difficult and challenging at times. Kelly is your personal professional certified lactation counselor (CLC), located in western Massachusetts. She has many years of personal experience having breastfed all four of her babies. Feeding sometimes through tears and agony, Kelly thought that she had to “just get through the difficult stage” to start to enjoy feeding her baby. Kelly went through very unnecessary pain and misery then. She knows how stressful it can be when your desired breastfeeding relationship hits some bumps along the way. For your personal lactation counseling Kelly comes to you in the comfort of your own home, assess your breastfeeding relationship between you and your baby, and listen to your concerns. She will help assist, encourage, and work with you both to get you to achieve your personal breastfeeding goal.

At your appointment Kelly will go over:

You and your baby’s history
Your concerns about breastfeeding
A physical assessment, of you and your baby
Observation of a complete feed
If necessary Kelly will assist with latch, positioning, hand expression, and/or pump use if needed
Weigh before/After feeding
Provide any needed informational resources
Follow-up with phone calls, texts, or e-mails
CLC services are $50 per hour.

Shannon is a DONA trained and certified doula with a background in public health, who believes that pregnancy and childbirth is a transformative, emotional, and beautiful but also ... morevery vulnerable time for expecting parents. This is precisely why Shannon became involved in birth work; to provide the invaluable emotional, physical and informational support of a doula

She believes it is an honor to be welcomed into a person’s birth space, to be present and share the experience with them during the labor process in such an individualized way because every birth is special; an incredibly unique experience. Whether at the hospital or at home, a vaginal or cesarean birth; everyone in any experience can benefit from having a Doula present at the moment of delivery.

You may learn more about Shannon's Doula philosophy by visiting her website.
With a background in public health and a focus on community health, Shannon understands the importance of social support. Its presence, or lack-thereof, can positively or negatively ... moreimpact our life experiences; and those experiences impact both our short and long-term health and wellness.

Pregnancy and childbirth is a transformative, emotional, and already very vulnerable time for expecting parents. So, how parents are cared for during this time and how they perceive their experience will have lasting effects on their emotional and physical health, parent-baby bonding, and parental mental health.

Shannon feels it is an honor to be welcomed into a person’s birth space, to be present and share this experience with them during the labor process in such an individualized way. No two support experiences are alike, and this is precisely what Shannon admires so much about this work. Shannon hopes to incorporate elements of her background to assist clients during their pregnancy, like using meditation, mindfulness, and affirmations to cope with stressful events and during labor.

Shannon looks forward to connecting with you and getting to know those on your birth team as you navigate your pregnancy and prepare for labor and birth.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE? When a birth occurs, you may feel anxious and overwhelmed in the early weeks afterwards. The skills you learned in the many classes you may have taken have been forgotten or doesn't seem to be working with this precious newborn. Caring for a new life is not only a joy, but a responsibility all at the same time that can cause stress on top of the sleepless nights. The team that gathered around for the birth is no longer there and solitude starts to creep in. Exhaustion and frustration are natural, but doesn't have to become a way of life for weeks on end. As a doula, that void can be filled reducing your chances of postpartum depression and anxiety by empowering you with the support you need and deserve.

My goal as your Doula and Wellness Specialist is to not only empower you, but elevate you and encourage you on your journey into motherhood/parenthood, while gaining a greater understanding of your newborn's emotional, physical, and behavioral needs. Your health needs are important, so let someone help you get life balanced and back on track.
